Planning how to move your bath upstairs

Cast iron baths could be the perfect choice for you if you are looking for stylish bathing options. Coming in a myriad of designs and at reasonable prices considering their longevity, the tubs are a great choice. In addition to their aesthetically pleasing characteristics, they possess thermal properties that keep in the heat, letting you soak for much longer than you could with a tub made of other materials.

While they look wonderful and let you relax for that much longer, the fact remains that cast iron baths are heavy. If you intend to move one, then there are some things you should take into account before doing so. By following these steps, you will be able to safely move your bath upstairs without harming yourself or the bathtub.

To begin with, you’ll have to protect your bath from all dents, scratches and marks. Try taping split foam pipe over the edges of the tub and cover the sides. Next you can wrap up the feet with some bubble wrap. Make sure you use enough tape so that the wrapping doesn’t shift while you move the bath. You can use corrugated cardboard for the sides too if you’d like, but whatever you decide on, devote plenty of time to taping and wrapping so that it is securely in place.

In terms of the actual ascent, plan it out carefully. Start by removing any and all obstructions, including the likes of coats that are hanging on the banister and any children’s toys within the vicinity. Observe the raised height of your tub against such things as light fixture positions and if the need calls for it, remove them.

Safety is absolutely crucial with cast iron baths. You should ensure you have enough people to carry them and use protective equipment wherever necessary. In some cases it may be better to lift the tub with a crane or hoist and guide it into the property via an upstairs window. This is much safer than trying to carry it up the stairs manually.
