Cleaning and maintaining your cast iron bath

Cleaning and maintaining your cast iron bath

Although many cast iron baths have stood the test of time for a huge number of years, they will still need to be cleaned and given maintenance at some point. The bathtubs we offer are of the highest quality and are extremely durable; this should ensure that maintenance does not need to be undertaken too frequently. This means you can enjoy an elegant, aesthetically pleasing tub for a long period with minimal upkeep.

Your cast iron bath will most likely be the centrepiece of your bathroom and keeping it clean is essential to make it a consistent eye catcher. One of the easiest ways to clean it is to fill it up with warm water and then add your normal washing up liquid. Leave the bath to soak and it can come up clean. This won’t corrode the inner layer and washing up liquids won’t stain the sides. Wiping down the tube after this with a non-abrasive cloth also helps combat mould.

If any difficult stains on your bath do appear but won’t come off with the washing up liquid then there is another great cleaning option. Making a paste of baking soda and water and then applying it to a stain and leaving it for a few hours is very effective. This is a very simple method and can leave the surface clean afterwards without risking damaging it.

Using acidic products is not recommended on the enamel surface of the cast iron baths. They can cause damage, including discolouration. It is important to keep in mind that you need different products to those you use on acrylic baths.
